A robot building kit adaptable to all users, ages, and experience

With Otto, we wanted to give our “builders'' more power in the creation process of their robot building kit. It’s important to us that Otto makes robotics accessible for all ages. We also, however, want to provide a challenge to even seasoned robot enthusiasts and hobbyists.

Other robotics kits and coding toys are often lacking in this regard. They are either oversimplified or too complex for wider audiences. Otto was designed to be simple, but to adapt to any skill level, age, or user.

Otto is durable enough for introducing young children to robotics at home, and for teaching STEM in the classroom. Our robot builder kits can showcase 3D printing, robotic assembly and design, and beginner to advanced level programming.

Opt for a 3D printing project or quick assembly straight from the box

Looking for a 3D printing project? Otto Maker’s Kits are the answer. Borrow from our library of free STL files, or make your own Otto design using TinkerCAD. Put your 3D modeling skills to the test, customize and personalize Otto, and extract STL files for unique Otto designs and add-ons.

Don’t have access to a 3D printer? No problem. Get a Builder’s Kit with all the parts, motors, circuitry, sensors, and tools you need for construction. Otto is easy to assemble and comes with instruction manuals to guide you through the process. 

Expect 1-2 hours for assembly (include 8+ hours if 3D printing, less with a high-end device). Construct your own robot building kit with no complicated electronic engineering and no soldering. When built, power your robot with two AA batteries (not included).

Get the tools for the job in Otto’s robot building kit

Otto has a range of robot kits in our store, with Builder’s Kits and Maker’s Kits for each of our robots. Inside Maker’s Kits, find the electronic components, the board, and motors for integrating with your 3D printed external housing.

In Builder’s Kits, you have all of the external parts as well, along with all wires, connections, and electronics. The external parts include Otto’s casing, head, arms, legs, and sensors. 

If looking for more than a DIY “starter kit”, there is also the Otto DIY Kit LC with laser cut wood parts. Unlike most Otto kits, this kit is a version with the housing completely cut by laser.

Write unique programs with Blockly, Arduino, ESP, or Python

Otto supports a number of beginner to advanced level programming languages, perfect for the classroom or tech hobbyists. For beginners, Otto Blockly makes for a user-friendly introduction into the world of programming.

Blockly allows you to develop code in a visual block-based format, which also shows lines of Arduino (C/C++) text alongside the visual blocks. This is a great way to quickly get into programming, and to start transitioning to more advanced coding languages.

You can also use Otto Scatch AI as an AI assistant, or enroll in one of our Coding Courses to start learning programming on your own. Write your own unique codes and commands for Otto to carry out, or borrow from our growing library of apps and functions.

 

Command Otto to walk, run, dance, make noise, and more

After programming Otto, use your Bluetooth device as a remote control to give it commands to carry out. Command your robot to make a variety of gestures, go through dance steps, create routines, and make noises.

With complete control over the robot’s speed, make Otto go faster or slower, and also to beep, buzz, and whir during its routines. Otto can even show emotion with various colors and gestures, avoid obstacles, and learn to retrieve items.
