Welcome to the Czech Maker Faire in Prague!
Visit the birth place of all robots, a city with a long tradition of making, tinkering and playing with science and technology that goes back to the 16th century alchemy and mechanical arts. The word “robot” originated in a play by Karel Čapek, an influential early 20th century Science Fiction author, who was inspired by an old Golem legend.
Golem was a powerful and semi-autonomous creature from clay designed by one of our first makers, the 16th century rabbi of Prague, Judah Loew ben Bezalel. Rabbi Loew was one of the first makers to face a very modern dilemma: how to make our autonomous and powerful technologies not only efficient and obedient, but also ethically and morally responsible and aesthetically pleasing and fun?
Join us in June 2019 in Prague to respond to this challenge and meet the present day mechanical artists and alchemists that question the limits between technology, nature and culture. Who or what are the golems today? How do we build them, but also dismantle, improve and debug?
We are a group of makers, educators and entrepreneurs from Prague with a passion for open hardware, citizen science and community run events. Our main partner and patron of the whole event is Prusa Research, the world famous open hardware 3D printing company founded in 2009 by Josef Prusa whose Prusa i3 design is the most used 3D printer in the world.
In cooperation with the Czech Technical University, New Media Studies (Faculty of Arts), citizen science collective Žádná Věda, Make More enterprise and the communication agency Taktiq, we hope to put Prague on the map of maker activities and connect our Central Europe maker scene with the rest of the world.
Is the perfect type of event for Otto DIY robot to be involved and we would make a special Workshop for anyone to join us for free, visit our booth or watch Camilo's Otto DIY founder and creator speech "Build your own robot"
