Design Brief

Otto is always waiting for new talents and skills! This challenge gives you the opportunity to customize Otto to jump, roll, dance, turn, move and do anything you can image. Together with Wikifactory platform, we are hoping to see the most eclectic and original all new Otto design!

Since Otto DIY offers open source design access, we hope that users will also take this opportunity to create their own Otto and win amazing prizes to continue being an Otto Builder.

Documentations are available for many remixes already on Otto DIY Wikifactory projects page, for inspiration and to help anyone who is unfamiliar with these types of robots.

All entries that are fully documented and follow correctly the below simple 7 steps will get automatically one year of PRO member subscription in Wikifactory for free!

How to Enter?

To make it easier for you we made this simple Otto DIY REMIX Template that you can just copy and start to fill the required documentation.

Qualifying designs must follow this steps:

  1. Transform Otto into something unique and original, there are NO restrictions for the size or technology or anything, the limit is your imagination!
  2. Join the Otto community in Wikifactory, click on the button below, if you are new to Wikifactory, just follow the sign up process.

3. VERY IMPORTANT: Start project with Otto DIY as owner visible to Anyone (public). Put a Name, short Description and also very important use a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License.

4. In topics input #ottodiy #ottoremixchallenge (later use same tags in any social media to promote)

5. Invite yourself as contributor, so that you appear as an author.

6. We will give importance to the proper documentation, you need to include all information listed below:

  • Include at least 1 photograph of a completed prototype.
  • Create Folders to upload and organize your files. Upload your files with informative names in order to help navigate your project's files. Try and make this as consistent as possible.
The readme must be separated into at least these sections :
  • Inspiration: this section must be filled out explaining your changes, how you remixed, include links to all other sources.
  • How it Works? what new skills you have given to Otto?. explain the technical things & features. Videos are perfect for this!
  • List of parts: List all materials, parts and components that were used in this project.
  • Fabrication:  What tools or machines are necessary for building this project?
  • Electronics and Programming: Wiring, programming software and libraries used.

7. Stay Alert in your project issues section, we will send you a message confirming the project is complete or not for the Challenge. If is not complete, do not worry just make the requested changes, upload and add the remaining information before the deadline.

You can submit as many robot designs as you want! there is no limited amount of project entries that you can upload, then you will have more chances to win. Feel free comment if any question at the end of this post.

All the qualifying entries for the #OttoREMIXchallenge will be posted in this Facebook Album for community voting with likes, that will also help judges to decide the winners of amazing prizes.

 

The earlier you upload your robot design the better. We encourage you to upload as early as possible, so that you easily win the bonus prizes; iterate, test, complete the documentation and improve your design even after the deadline.

Designs will be judged on this simple criteria:

1. Technical excellence, design functionality and application.

2. Design creativity, uniqueness of the remix and community likes.

3. Easiness of fabrication and replicability
